HC Deb 28 April 1910 vol 17 cc770-1W
EARL of RONALDSHAY

asked the President of the Board of Trade the value of the pianos manufactured in the United Kingdom, and also in the Commonwealth of Australia, during the last year for which figures are available?

Mr. BUXTON

The tabulation of the Returns in respect of the manufacture of musical instruments in the United Kingdom obtained under the Census of Production Act is not yet completed, but when the information is available I will put it at the disposal of the Noble Lord. The Australian Returns with regard to the manufacture of musical instruments do not contain separate information as regards pianos.

Sir WILLIAM COLLINS

asked the number and the value of pianos manufactured in the United Kingdom which were exported in each year since pianos were distinguished from other musical instruments in the annual statistics of trade?

Mr. BUXTON

The exports of pianos have only been separately distinguished in the Official Trade Returns since the commencement of 1904. The following statement shows the number and value of pianos (of United Kingdom production) exported from the United Kingdom in each year from 1904 to 1909, inclusive:—

Year. Number of Pianos Exported Value of Pianos Exported.
£
1904 4,641 136,887
1905 5,346 144,645
1906 5,692 154,738
1907 5,759 165,299
1908 5,170 149,267
1909 5,482 153,677
