HC Deb 25 April 1910 vol 17 c204W
Mr. LONSDALE

asked the Chief Secretary if he will ascertain from the local constabulary to whom the facts are known, the number of cattle-drivers who have been given holdings of land by the Estates Commissioners during the past three years?

Mr. BIRRELL

I have nothing to add to my rely to a question on the same subject asked by the hon. Member on the 19th May, 1909.

Mr. LONSDALE

asked the Chief Secretary whether, having regard to the violation of the law committed by large organnised assemblages of people on the occasion of the recent cattle-drives on the Pollock estate, county Gahvay, he will now consider the propriety of abandoning the procedure which has been followed by the Executive during the past three years for dealing with this form of crime; and whether he will adopt other methods, within the ordinary law, which experience has proved to the police to be effective for coping successfully with such acts of lawlessness?

Mr. BIRRELL

It is not possible at this stage to make any statement as to the proceedings which may be considered necessary in this case.
