HC Deb 20 April 1910 vol 16 cc2269-70W
Mr. DUFFY

asked the Chief Secretary whether he can state how many tenants in the county of Galway have become tenant purchasers under the Land Act, 1903; what quantity or acreage of un-tenanted land was purchased by the Estates Commissioners and the Congested Districts Board for distribution amongst the tenants; and can he state the average price paid for each holding?

Mr. BIRRELL

The Estates Commissioners inform me that 3,574 holdings have been vested in tenants in county Galway under the Irish Land Act, 1903, the average price per holding being £333, and that proceedings are pending before them for the sale of 10,875 holdings in that county. The Commissioners have purchased for distribution 62,536 acres of un-tenanted land in county Galway, and the Congested Districts Board have purchased 12,853 acres.
