HC Deb 20 April 1910 vol 16 c2276W
Mr. HARRISON-BROADLEY

asked the Secretary for War whether, in view of the shortage of Army horses, in addition to the supply already to be obtained from the United Kingdom, he will consider the advisability of instituting a system of Government-owned horse ranches in parts of the Empire, such as Western Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa, where the stock-raising areas would be able to supply our increasing demands?

Mr. HALDANE

There is at present no shortage in the supply of Army horses for peace requirements. The advisability of instituting a system such as that suggested has been under consideration, but the attendant expense and other difficulties have prevented any definite conclusion being arrived at.
