HC Deb 12 April 1910 vol 16 c1205W
Mr. THOMAS F. SMYTH

asked the Chief Secretary whether he can state if the Congested Districts Board will be in a position to give grants to poor tenant-farmers in highly congested districts, such as there are in county Leitrim, for the building and improving of their houses, as some of them are living in very insanitary dwellings at the present time?

Mr. BIRRELL;

The Congested Districts Board, at their meeting on the 6th instant, adopted a resolution in favour of giving small grants on their former parish committee system towards the cost of erecting and improving dwelling-houses and out offices, and a scheme in detail is being prepared, which will be published when approved by the Board. Concurrently with this scheme loans for larger amounts for the same purpose will be available in suitable cases.
