Captain COOPERasked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that Mr. Andrew Pierce, a postman at Stillorgan, county Dublin, performs four attendances a day, ranging from 7.10 a.m. to 6.40 p.m.; whether he is aware that his wages are only 13s. 3d. a week; and whether, in view of the fact that the actual time employed is practically six hours a day, and the recommendation of the Hobhouse Committee that the number of auxiliaries in Ireland was excessive, he will make the above post an appointed one and confer it upon Mr. Pierce?
§ Mr. HERBERT SAMUELI find that Mr. Pierce's normal duty consists of three408W attendances a day, ranging from 7.10 a.m. to 3.0 p.m. For this duty he receives wages of 13s. 3d. a week and 1s. 4d. a fortnight for Sunday duty. In addition, he has irregularly been allowed to perform an evening attendance for which a payment of 2s. 6d. a week is made. A revision of the outdoor postal services at Stillorgan is under consideration, and I hope that it may be possible to replace by established appointments auxiliary posts at that office; but I cannot promise that Mr. Pierce will receive an appointment.
