HC Deb 05 April 1910 vol 16 c404W
Mr. REES

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether he is aware that the management and staffing of the General Hospital at Madras gives and has for many years given satisfaction to patients and to the public concerned; and whether, seeing that abstention from employing military surgeons in this hospital and generally in civil employ in time of peace would involve increased expenditure at the cost of the taxpayer, since peace is the normal condition of affairs in India, the Secretary of State will advise the Governor of Madras to abstain from introducing any change into the present system?

Mr. MONTAGU

The Secretary of State is not aware of any intention on the part of the Government of Madras to introduce changes in the administration of the General Hospital at Madras; and he is not prepared, therefore, to address them on the subject.
