HC Deb 04 April 1910 vol 16 cc171-2W
Viscount CASTLEREAGH

asked the Chancellor whether his attention has been called to the hardships resulting from the effect of Section 7 (2) of The Superannuation Act, 1887, which requires stoppage of 4s. from lunatic's pension whenever the guardians who are maintaining the pensioner in an asylum claim or are entitled to claim it; and whether he will introduce measure to amend the section by providing that the full pension of lunatic soldiers or sailors shall be paid to the guardians or, by consent of the guardians, to the wife and family of the lunatic soldier or sailor, on the undertaking of the guardians to forego their claim upon the county council grant under Section 24 (2) (f) of The Local Government Act, 1888?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

My right hon. Friend cannot admit that any hardship is involved, and he regrets that he cannot undertake to introduce legislation in the sense suggested by the Noble Lord.
