This is a matter for Christina Townsend, Chief Executive of the Appeals Service. She will reply to the hon. Member.

Letter from Christina Townsend to Mr. Roger Berry, dated 27 October 2003 The Secretary of State has asked me to reply to your question regarding the number of disabled people who have sat as a panel member of a disability appeal tribunal in 2000–01,2001–02 and 2002–03. We do not have information for the years 2000–01 and 2001–02. The first disability survey of panel members was carried out last year. During the year 2002–03 there were 226 disabled people who sat as on a disability appeal tribunal drawn from a total of 2074 members of the appeals tribunal. I hope this reply is helpful.
