Further to the Written Answer by the Lord Bach on 2 February (WA 46), why they have not sent any unit from the Royal Engineers to Sri Lanka to aid the re-building of infrastructure damaged by the tsunami. [HL1250]

Lord Bach

Although early analysis identified a number of tasks appropriate for the Royal Engineers in the tsunami disaster area the Government of Sri Lanka reacted sufficiently quickly that, in the event, the requirement for engineer support had diminished to the extent that no external engineer support beyond a limited number of technical experts (provided through non-governmental organisations (NGOs)) was required.
