Tim Loughton

Fiona Mactaggart

Last year, the work of the Active Community Unit was expanded to incorporate a Charities Unit and a Civil Renewal Unit in a new Active Communities Directorate. Through the Active Communities Directorate, the Home Office aims to build strong, thriving communities where everyone, regardless of age, race or social background has a stake in society.

The overall budgets for expenditure on active communities for financial years 2003–04, and planned for 2004–05, rounded to the nearest million pounds, is as follows:

£ million
SR settlement Futurebuilders fund
2003–04 81 10
2004–05 84 57

The figures show allocations for the Directorate based on the Department's Spending Review 2002 settlement. In addition, the futurebuilders fund is shown, which is being distributed by an independent provider under contract to the Home Office.
