To ask the Secretary of State for Health what the change in numbers of(a) residential care beds and (b) nursing beds has been in (i) Dorset health authority area and (ii) Bournemouth since 1997. [173622]

The table shows the number of residential and nursing home places in Dorset and Bournemouth, as at 31 March for the years 1997 to 2001.

Figures for later years have been collected by the National Care Standards Commission but comparable details broken down by council are not available.
