To ask the Deputy Prime Minister what proportion of local authority spending in the current financial year is(a) provided centrally and (b) raised locally. [173992]

In 2003–04, 74 per cent. of local government revenue expenditure was funded centrally and 26 per cent. locally. Figures are not yet available for the current financial year.
