HC Deb 18 May 2004 vol 421 c839W
Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what his latest assessment is of the number of accidents attributable to sleep and microsleep on roads. [167658]

Mr. Jamieson

Research studies indicate that driver sleepiness accounts for 15–20 per cent. of accidents on motorways and similar roads and for about 10 per cent. of all accidents on the road network in Great Britain.
