Mr. Paice

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department when he expects the Care Custody computer system to be fully operational throughout England and Wales. [170722]

Caroline Flint

The current plan proposes that the Custody and Case Preparation software applications will be installed and ready for service in all 43 Police Forces by October 2005 and that Forces will have the systems in full operational use by March 2006.

Mr. Paice

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether(a) the Came Custody computer system will contain all data held in England and Wales regarding an individual and (b) the information will be limited to locally-held data. [170723]

Caroline Flint

As currently designed the bulk of the Custody and Case Preparation information will be held locally within the force area and only core data and that information required to be recorded on the PNC will be available nationally.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what timescale targets he intends to set for the input of data into the Care Custody system regarding custody decisions, bail and court decisions. [170724]

The current requirement established by the Association of Chief Police Officers and monitored by Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary, (HMIC), stipulates that the following timeliness performance indicators are required to be met by the Police for entry onto the Police National Computer:

Arrest and Charge

  1. 1. Initial key details of arrestee and charge—90 per cent. within 24 hours of arrest.
  2. 2. Full entry—90 per cent. within five days
  3. 3. Once compliance with 1 and 2 is obtained then a staged improvement to 90 per cent. within 24 hours for full entry.

Bail

  1. 1. Police bail 100 per cent. within 24 hours Court Case Results—Police Entered.
  2. 2. 100 per cent. entered within 72 hours of the result from the court coming into Police possession.
  3. Court Case Results—Court Entered 1.
  4. 100 per cent. within 24 hours.
