§ Lord Hyltonasked Her Majesty's Government:
Whether they have discussed with the Government of the Cameroon Republic the implementation of the United Nations Special Rapporteur's recommendations for ending torture and extrajudicial killings and the recommendations in Chapter 8 of the Report on Torture in the Cameroon, published in June 2002 by the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture; and, if not, whether they will do so. [HL2583]
§ Baroness Symons of Vernham DeanWorking closely with the Commonwealth and our EU and other partners, we maintain an intensive dialogue with the Cameroonian Government about governance and human rights. We are looking closely at the UN Committee Against Torture's recent assessment of how much progress Cameroon has made in implementing the Special Rapporteur's recommendations, and recommendations for further action. We are also supporting a number of projects to improve conditions in Cameroon's prisons and we offer support to members of the Cameroon branch of Action by Christians Against Torture.
