To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what assessment she has made of future employment prospects in the UK call centre industry. [170695]

Mr. Mike O'Brien

The Department is today publishing a report of the study we commissioned to look at the competitiveness of the UK call and contact centre industry. The study which covers a wide range of call centre issues forecasts that the UK industry is to gain around 200,000 jobs in the next three years, directly employing over a million people by 2007.
