To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what role he envisages for local authorities in marking(a) VE Day and (b) VJ Day outside London. [158705]

§ Mr. Caplin
On 1 March 2004 I announced to the House that there will be a national celebration and commemoration of the end of the Second World War on Sunday 10 July 2005. The main event will be in London. However, I very much hope that other towns and cities366W across the United Kingdom will stage their own events on that day. Planning is at an early stage and I expect to be able to inform the House further about progress later in the year.
