To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many teenagers were treated for sexually transmitted diseases in England in each of the last 10 years, broken down by(a) NHS region and (b) strategic health authority. [154144]

The number of teenagers treated for sexually transmitted diseases in genitourinary medicine (GUM) clinics in England from 1995 to 2002 inclusive, by National Health Service region and strategic health authority are shown in the table.

Data refer to attenders at genitourinary medicine clinics aged less than 20 years with one or more of the following diagnoses: infectious syphilis, uncomplicated gonorrhoea, uncomplicated chlamydial infection, genital herpes (first attack) and genital warts (first attack).
