To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many applications have been(a) made and (b) accepted for the Highly Skilled Migrants Programme, broken down by (i) the top 20 nationalities and (ii) occupation, since the inception of the programme. [172596]

I regret that a full breakdown of the information requested is not readily available in the format requested and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

However, we are able to provide a breakdown of the number of applications received and approved by the top 10 nationalities up to the 23 June 2004. They are as follows:
