To ask the Minister for the Cabinet Office what percentage of civil servants are employed on a fixed contract basis. [184576]

[holding answer 20 July 2004]. The percentage of civil servants employed on a fixed term contract was 1.2 per cent., on 1 October 2003. That figure is based on those departments that supply appointment status data centrally and covers approximately three quarters of all civil servants.
