§ Mr. HuttonIn 2003–04, the NHS Bank made available £152 million special assistance to the following strategic health authorities. Surrey and Sussex (£40 million), Avon, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire (£70 million), Thames Valley (£25 million), and Kent and Medway (£17 million).
No money was repaid to the NHS Bank by the SHAs in the last 12 months.
Decisions on special assistance for 2004–05 have not been made.

§ Mr. HuttonNHS Bank and the NHS Foundation Trust Financing Facility carry out two separate functions. NHS Bank provides a service, via strategic health authorities, to National Health Service trusts. The purpose of the NHS Bank is to support NHS organisations in maximising the use of resources across the NHS and across years. The NHS Financing Facility provides a service to NHS foundation trusts. The Financing Facility will assess and agree capital loan applications from NHS foundation trusts on behalf of the Secretary of State.
