To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills if he will make a statement on the application of health and safety requirements in primary schools. [154522]

Employers at primary schools must ensure so far as is reasonably practicable the health and safety of staff, pupils and visitors to the school site. The employer will usually be the local education authority. In practice the associated tasks are usually delegated to the school staff, for example ensuring drinking water taps are labelled.
