To ask the Secretary of State for Health what the cost of the National Care Standards Commission has been in each year since its creation. [154464]

Dr. Ladyman

Revenue expenditure for the National Care Standards Commission (NCSC) in the year 1 April 2002 to 31 March 2003 was £119.446 million. The budget figure for 2003–04 is £129.949 million.

Information for the full financial year 2003–04 is not yet available. This will be contained in the NCSC's 2003–04 Annual Report and Accounts to be published and laid before Parliament later this year.

The income raised by the National Care Standards Commission (NCSC) in the year 1 April 2002 to 31 March 2003 was £32.545 million. The budget figure for 2003–04 is £36.718 million.
