To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many ward housekeepers are employed in each NHS trust. [130323]

As of January 2003, around 5,000 housekeepers were reported as providing housekeeping services within 200 national health service trusts and primary care trusts.

The number of housekeepers per trust is varied and reflects local needs and systems.
