HC Deb 18 September 2003 vol 410 cc969-70W
Mr. Laws

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what assessment he has made of the effect of differential rates of vehicle excise duty on promoting the manufacture and sale of vehicles with improved pollution characteristics; and if he will make a statement. [130545]

John Healey

The Government have introduced a range of measures to encourage the use of cleaner vehicles and technologies, including graduated vehicle excise duty, vehicle labelling and graduated company car tax.

The effectiveness of all these policies are being evaluated including an assessment of graduated VED by the Department of Transport and the results will inform future policy advice.
