To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what representations he has made and intends to make to Network Rail to ensure that disused land is sold at cost value to local authorities to enable flood remedial measures to be implemented. [128211]

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the Strategic Rail Authority and Network Rail's decision to opt for closure and diversions to allow engineering work. [128640]

Mr. McNulty

The Strategic Rail Authority and Network Rail's approach will enable the work to be done more quickly and efficiently and the inevitable disruption will be contained to a much shorter period. Disruption to passengers will be minimised by the use of diversionary routes and alternative services.
