What evidence they have that the measures on data retention provided in Part 11 of the Anti-terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001 are still necessary to protect national security two years since the Act was passed. [HL4756]

The threat from international terrorism remains. The data retention provisions in Part 11 of the Anti-terrorism, Crime and Security Act 2001 are an essential part of our response to the threat.
