HC Deb 07 October 2003 vol 411 cc78-9W
Tim Loughton:

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make a statement on the current situation whereby a child discharged from hospital following urology and gastrointestinal surgery receives no community paediatric support. [129293]

Dr. Ladyman:

The level of support each individual child receives upon discharge from hospital is a matter for local decision. This will be based upon the child's degree of dependency and will involve the hospital concerned working in close liaison with local primary health care staff and the community nursing team.

The forthcoming national service framework for children will set standards aimed at raising the quality of the health and social care services that children receive and will include consideration of the best means to support children post-discharge from hospital.
