§ Mr. WigginTo ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make a statement on IVF treatment in the UK. [136673]
§ Miss Melanie Johnson [holding answer 6 November 2003]In vitro fertilisation (1VF) treatment in the United Kingdom is regulated by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority. It is provided by the national health service and by the private sector. In England, access to NHS infertility treatment varies according to location. Therefore, the Government has asked the National Institute for Clinical Excellence to prepare a guideline on the assessment and treatment of people with fertility problems. The guideline is due for publication in February 2004.
