To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what his Department's assessment is of the threat to the United Kingdom and its interests from ballistic missiles in the aftermath of the Iraq war; and if he will make a statement. [133720]

I refer the hon. Member to the Ministry of Defence paper, "Missile Defence, a Public Discussion Paper", which was published in December 2002. A copy is available in the Library of the House. It is also available at: www.mod.uk

Since that assessment was published, coalition operations in Iraq have successfully removed the threat of ballistic missiles that were held by, or under development by, the former Iraqi regime.
