§ Ann WintertonTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what research he has evaluated on the effectiveness of the Just Say No anti-drugs campaign in reducing overall drugs misuse in the USA; what plans he has to introduce this style of anti-drugs campaigning to the UK; and if he will make a statement. [114404]
§ Mr. Bob AinsworthAn evaluation of the "Just say No" campaign was undertaken in 2000 and is documented in the Home Office publication "Let"s Get Real", which describes the evidence base for Communicating with the Public about drugs. This evaluation indicates that 101W campaigns which focus on behaviour change are unlikely to succeed and that simplistic "say no" messages will be ineffective.
There are no current plans to introduce this style for anti-drugs campaigning in the UK. The form of each UK anti-drugs campaign is determined on the basis of research and market testing with target audiences.
