To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people have been killed in each of the last six years by motorists who have subsequently been charged with a motoring offence. [91549]

[holding answer 20 January 20031: Information on the persons charged is not collected centrally. Available information taken from the Home Office Court Proceedings Database on total number of proceedings for offences where a motorist caused death is shown in table 1. Figures for the number of people killed in these cases are not collected. Data for 2001 will be available in February.

The numbers of fatalities in road accidents in England and Wales for 1998 to 2001 are given in table 2.
