To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs how many veterinarians are employed by the state veterinary service in Scotland; and where they are based. [56293]

A total of 61 veterinarians were employed by the state veterinary service in Scotland on 13 May 2002. Their disposition is illustrated by the following table:
