HC Deb 09 May 2002 vol 385 c342W
40. Jim Knight

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate he has made of the number of people in the south-west who will be affected by his measures to support lower and middle income families. [53582]

Dawn Primarolo

There are 575,000 families with children in the south-west. Around 90 per cent. of these families will be eligible for the child tax credit, which together with child benefit will deliver up to £54.25 in support for the first child from April 2003. There are currently 105,000 families with children in the south-west benefiting from the working families' tax credit.
