HC Deb 14 March 2002 vol 381 cc1217-8W
John Mann

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills what the staying on rate post-16 education is in(a) coalfield areas and (b) England. [41797]

Mr. Ivan Lewis

Reliable data on the percentage of students continuing in post-compulsory education at age 16 for coalfield areas cannot be produced at present. Participation rates by LEA and by local LSC area for 16 and 17-year-olds are published in Statistical Bulletin 11/00: Participation in education and training by young people aged 16 and 17 in each local area and region, England, 1995–96 to 1999–00.

The percentage of 16-year-olds participating in full-time and part-time education in England was 78.5 per cent. (provisional) in 2000–01.
