To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Skills what proportion of children left school with no academic qualifications in(a) coalfield areas and (b) England in each of the last 10 years. [41800]

The proportion of 15-year-olds that achieved no GCSE or GNVQ equivalent passes by 2000–01 was 5.5 per cent. for England as a whole. This information is not available for coalfield areas.
