HC Deb 17 June 2002 vol 387 c24W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many claims for compensation in the last five years for the loss of Icelandic fishing have been rejected; and how many remain to be processed. [61405]

Nigel Griffiths

Since October 2000, when the Compensation scheme for former Icelandic trawlermen began, a total of 2,872 applications (not including duplicates) have been rejected.

A total of 4,158 applications have been accepted to end May 2002.

All applications received have been processed though a number have been referred back to applicants for further information, are being reviewed by officials or are subject to an appeal to the independent adjudicator.
