HC Deb 10 June 2002 vol 386 c775W
Mr. Carmichael

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what assessment he has made of the UK's compliance with its obligations under the International Labour Organisation Convention 147. [60168]

Mr. Jamieson

The UK ratified ILO Convention Number 147 in 1980. The UK Government ratifies international conventions only when it is satisfied that measures are in place to ensure compliance. The Government has also ratified the Protocol of 1996 to that Convention, which extends the list of other conventions with which signatory states must comply.
