To ask the Deputy Prime Minister (1) what estimate he has made of the amount of empty social housing in England in each of the last five years; and if he will make a statement; [65851]

(2) what estimate he has made of how many homes were lying empty in England in each of the last five years; and if he will make a statement. [65854]

The total number of vacant dwellings in England on 1 April in each of the last five years is presented in the table, along with the number that were owned by social landlords.
