To ask the Deputy Prime Minister what plans the Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration has regarding the continued discharge of his functions. [32396]

Mr. Leslie

Sir Michael Buckley has indicated he is minded to step down in the summer. He currently holds the post of Parliamentary Commissioner for Administration and Health Service Commissioner for England, as well as equivalent posts in Scotland and Wales. The Government will shortly put in place arrangements to fill these posts and in doing so will take full account of their commitment to create a new unified ombudsman body in England, as set out in my statement of 20 July 2001.
