Dr. Tonge

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) how many patients of the NHS receive monitored dosage medicines; [28654]

(2) how many patients of the NHS on monitored dosage medicines do not get free prescriptions. [28653]

Ms Blears

Monitored dosage systems and other multi-compartment medicines compliance aids are widely used, especially by residents of care homes. We do not, however, hold any information centrally about the number of national health service patients whose medicines are dispensed in this way, nor about how many of those patients are entitled to free prescriptions.
