To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, Local Government and the Regions what steps the Government are taking to make local councils more autonomous. [27828]

The Government set out our new vision for local government in the recently published White Paper, "Strong Local Leadership-Quality Public350W Services." It contains a range of proposals to give local councils greater freedom to enable them to innovate and respond to the needs of their communities.
