Mr. Webb

To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions if he will estimate the number of claimants in receipt of(a) retirement pension, (b) the minimum income guarantee and (c) attendance allowance for whom he has appointed a third party who is acting on behalf of the claimant. [25319]

The information for retirement pension and attendance allowance is not available in the format requested. Such information as is available is as follows. As at August 2001 there were 179,900 minimum income guarantee claimants in Great Britain who have an appointee acting on their behalf.

Notes:

Figure is based on a 5 per cent. sample and is therefore subject to a degree of sampling error.

Figure has been rounded to the nearest 100.

MIG claimants are defined as a benefit unit where the claimant and/or partner are aged 60 or over.
