HC Deb 15 January 2002 vol 378 c229W
Mr. Bercow

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many tax units paying a marginal tax rate of 40 per cent. have children; and how many tax units have children. [26282]

Dawn Primarolo

It is estimated from household survey data that there are about 7.5 million families with dependent children (including those aged up to 18 and in full-time further education), and that about 1 million of these contain at least one adult who pays income tax at the higher rate.
