HL Deb 14 January 2002 vol 630 c136WA
The Duke of Montrose

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will define what they mean by "uncultivated land" and "semi-natural areas" in the Environmental Impact Assessment (Uncultivated Land and Semi-natural Areas) England Regulations 2001 (S.I. 2001/3966). [HL2193]

Lord Whitty

The regulations do not define "uncultivated land and semi-natural areas" but, as a working guide, the intention is to apply the EIA arrangements to unimproved grassland, heath and moorland, scrubland, and wetlands. Further details will be set out in guidelines which the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs will publish shortly.
