HC Deb 25 February 2002 vol 380 c924W
Mr. Gareth R. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs what angling licences are granted for waters where there is a statutory right of navigation. [34953]

Mr. Meacher

Anyone aged 12 years or over who fishes for salmon, trout, freshwater fish or eels in England and Wales must have an Environment Agency rod fishing licence. Rod licences are required for fishing in both navigable and non-navigable waters. Agency rod licences do not confer a right to fish; a permit from the owner of the fishing rights is required before angling can take place.
