A national scheme of parking concessions, known as the Blue Badge Scheme, was introduced in regulations made under the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act 1970. In addition some local authorities have introduced their own local schemes by means of a traffic regulation order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
