To ask the Secretary of State for Transport when new trains will be introduced on the Glasgow-Preston-London Euston route. [84057]

A phased introduction of new Pendolino trains will begin early in 2003, initially between London and Manchester. Introduction of trains north of Crewe is dependent upon fleet delivery and ongoing route clearance and upgrade works.
