HL Deb 24 October 2001 vol 627 c130WA
Lord Janner of Braunstone

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether pilots of British passenger aircraft have the same freedom of evasive action as their United States counterparts if they have to deal with hijack situations. [HL794]

The Minister of State Department for Transport, Local Government and the Regions (Lord Falconer of Thoroton)

We are not aware of any such freedom for US pilots. Extreme manoeuvres by aircraft could pose a significant risk to the safety of an aircraft and its passengers.
